It’s not surprising why many people, men and women alike, opt for a digital sport watch. It usually comes with other useful functions that other forms of wrist watches are short of. To name a few: GPS, accelerometer, pedometer, heart monitor, and many more. That’s why those who are into sports or have an active lifestyle go for sports watches.
But perhaps its biggest advantage over other kinds of timepieces is its durable construction. It’s designed to withstand the demands of a wearer’s active lifestyle. That’s why sport watches are popular not only among athletes. But also among tech freaks and people who wish to own something that really lasts.
However, in case you own one, it doesn’t mean you have to disregard proper caring and maintenance. How you treat your timepiece will have an impact on how long it’s going to last.
Avoid exposing it to sudden changes in temperature. For instance, jumping into the pool after staying in the steam room for minutes wearing your watch is a no-no. Its plastic or rubber parts, though hard-wearing may warp or distort. The same is true with the seals that make it water- and shock-resistant.
For cleaning the polyurethane strap and casing, usually a dry or damp cloth will do the trick. But with the presence of tough stains, using a toothbrush, soap and water may be necessary. As with cleaning the graphic lcd, refrain from using solvents or any other harsh chemicals. A damp cloth is all it takes to wipe off dirt and stains on it.
Make it a habit to rinse it in running water, after exposure to saltwater, sweat or chlorinated pool water. Most especially after exposing it to hard water. This is important to keep rusting and staining of mineral deposits at bay. Also, it’s best to check the manual how far you can go with exposing your watch to water. Some water-resistant watches may be okay for wading in the pool, but may not be okay to be used for diving.
Even if your watch is shock-resistant, still it’s best to avoid exposing it to unwanted crashes, vibrations and bumps. Shock absorbing parts help the timepiece to hold up strains brought about by playing sports or performing rigorous activities. However, there are limitations. Give it too much, you will see effects on the led backlight, readings as well as malfunctioning of its other features.
Part of maintenance is cleaning of internal parts and replacement of worn-out batteries and parts. These actions are best done by someone who’s skilled at it. It’s important that you read the leaflet to be aware of other special caring your timepiece needs.
